Possibilities of using animals in zoos in zoorehabilitation.
ŘÍHOVÁ, Žaneta
Although people knew about the therapeutic power of animals from of old, the zoo-rehabilitation is a quite a young field standing at the beginning of its existence. The zoo-rehabilitation can be defined as a summary of activities where is used a therapeutic action of various species to human experience and behaviour. There was retraced and described a physiological, psychological and social positive impact on a human being at a long-term or repeated exposure. A contact with animals can improve overall health, to adjust the psyche and thus to improve the quality of life. A goal of my bachelor thesis was to explore possibilities and ways of using animals in zoos in an area of the zoo-rehabilitation. A partial goal was a specification of species used within the zoo-rehabilitation in programmes of zoos and a screening of the programmes and activities realized in zoos within the zoo-rehabilitation. In the theoretical part at fist I focus my attention on a history of the cohabitation of a man with animals, then on a description of a positive influence on the development and shaping of the personality of children, i.e. a healthy child as well as children with disabilities. Then I clarify terms used in connection with the zoo-rehabilitation. Outputs of the empirical part are results from the qualitative research where I used methods of CAMI, a participant observation, a semi-standardized interview, a secondary data analysis and, as a complementary method, a photo-documentation. The thesis should serve as an appropriate educational and promotional material of the zoo-rehabilitation. Then it should provide a summary overview of possibilities and activities of using animals in zoos in the zoo-rehabilitation area, which is not currently in no way conceptually drawn.
